Stipendienkompass is a consulting service for students. It does not grant scholarships itself but provides helpful information about scholarships in Germany.
The advice given by the Stipendienkompass team is free of charge and strictly impartial.

International Students
Begabtenförderungswerke:
There are 13 foundations called the Begabtenförderungswerke, which offer scholarships for talented students enrolled in public or state-recognized institutions of higher education. These grants consist of a financial aid, as well as an extensive course and workshop programme. All students have a personal mentor and a lot of possibilities to engage in social, academic, political, environmental or religious activities. The most important requirements for application are academic records above average and social commitment in voluntary work. Please note, that most of these foundations require at least a B2-level German language certificate. www.stipendiumplus.de
Deutschlandstipendium and university-specific scholarships:
The Deutschlandstipendium is a scholarship developed by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research and co-founded by over 300 universities and institutions of higher education all around the country in collaboration with businesses, foundations and private sponsors. The scholarship consists of an amount of 300€ per month along with a special mentoring programme offered individually by each institution. International students are welcome to apply if they meet the institution’s requirements. Usually the criteria are academic and personal achievements, along with evidence of social commitment. Some Universities’ criteria might include a certificate proving a specific minimum level of German language. For more information visit: www.deutschlandstipendium.de
Some universities offer grants or financial aid for their international students. The “Allgemeine Studienberatung” (Student Advice Service) or the International Office of every university know best about these possibilities.
Subject-related scholarships:
Also, there are so called “subject-related scholarships” (fachspezifische Stipendien) which promote academic achievements in a certain area of research, a specific topic, field of study or university department. Besides the Stipendienkompass, the “Allgemeine Studienberatung” (Student Advice Service) at your German university or your faculty’s academic staff can advise you concerning these grants.

Besides the Begabtenförderungswerke, foundations like the following offer scholarships throughout Germany for students of all subjects with a good academic average. Some foundations offer grants especially for talented master students.

Refugees
For most scholarships, refugees are welcome to apply just like any German student, if they meet the scholarship’s requirements. However, it is important to keep in mind, that for most scholarships, at least a B2-level German language certificate is needed.
